
Dan has a long track record of providing event water safety cover at a wide variety of events at a both a tactical level, and a strategic level. From a small local sprint triathlon, to the European Games. From a simple open water swim, to high levels of risk. Dan is experienced at developing practical pragmatic solutions that allow your event to take place safely.
Experience
Dan has co-ordinated RLSS UK lifeguard teams as part of the Great Swim Series and various triathlons. In France, Dan has been part of the jetski and powerboat safety teams for the World Kitesurfing Championships, Regional kayak descent races, and whitewater swimming. Dan was part of the Medical Team for the London 2012 Olympics, and volunteers as a Community First Responder. Additionally, Dan has been a technical supervisor (and safety cover) for large multi-agency training events with the emergency services.
Innovative
He wrote the operating plans and safety plans for the water polo, synchronised swimming, diving, and swimming events of the First European Games in Azerbaijan. Using alternative equipment, and freediving rescue techqniesu, Dan pioneered a novel technique for removing a casualty with a spinal cord injury from the bottom of the diving pit. Working closely with the Chief Medical Advisor, and paramedic colleagues – the team could extract a casualty safely, quickly, and efficiently.
In 2015, the Dutch Ambassador swam across the Nile as a fundraising event for Nile Swimmers, the safety protocols and plans for the day had all been written by Dan, and executed professionally by the Nile Swimmers safety team.
